What is Summit Education Center's History?

Summit Education Center was founded in 2015 holding school in a one room school for grades 3-6th. In 2016 SEC moved to a multi-classroom school teaching grades 3-8th. In 2017, SEC once again expanded and began it’s first year of offering High School level classes to 9th grade.



Is Summit Education Center a Christian school?

Yes, SEC is a faith-based school founded by The Summit, a local non-denominational church that has been in Spearfish since 1981. The Summit is connected to a wider, global network of Churches called C-WBN, which currently has operations in over 100 nations.



What curriculum does SEC use?

SEC uses the Abeka Curriculum as it’s content standard for grade level core subjects, English and Mathematics. Various curricular sources for content standards in History and Science include Abeka, Pearson, McGraw Hill, and The Core Knowledge Sequence.



Does SEC provide subjects beyond the core content areas?

Yes, Enrichments classes are a daily part of SEC’s schedules including music, art, cooking, life-skills, technology, team sports, and much more. Also, students participate in Physical Education scheduled twice a week along-side their daily extended recesses in order to integrate physical activity within each school day.



Do students wear uniforms at SEC?

Building a strong culture is of primary importance at Summit Education Center. For that reason, one of the tools we use to build this culture is a uniform dress code. More information about our uniform policy can be found here.



Is transportation provided to and from SEC?

At this time, SEC does not provide transportation to and from the facility.
